Americans are seeking “revenge” travel this summer, as 2022 hotel bookings are rapidly outpacing 2019 levels for the first time since the pandemic began. With vaccines available and little restrictions, many travelers are increasingly ready to leave home for some much-needed R&R. The months of February, March, April, and May 2022 have surpassed 2019 same-time performance, with June of this year already outpacing pre-pandemic booking levels – all very welcome news for the hotel industry!
Higher prices have not dulled travel enthusiasm, as hoteliers have achieved higher transient average daily rates (ADR) for summer 2022, peaking in August at $210 compared to $188 for the same month in 2019.
Cars are in high demand as well this year, with booking volumes up 8% and average daily rates up $2 over 2021 figures.
