Travel in Spain is nearing pre-pandemic volumes heading into summer. Hotel occupancy has steadily increased from a low of 33% occupancy in January 2022, finishing nearly on par with 2019 performance for May 2022 at 73% occupancy. And with 36% of hotel reservations still being made within the 0-7 day booking window, there is a strong possibility that this summer could outperform the prior three years.
Also notable is the high transient average daily rate (ADR) achieved by hoteliers, reaching a high of $254 per room in August, versus $186 for the same month in 2019.
Along with the price and demand for hotels, car rentals are also proving popular. Booking volumes are up 113% for the months of June, July, and August 2022 versus 2021, with a $30 bump in average daily rate. Car rental length is also up slightly this year, as Spaniards look to extend their holidays longer than previous years.
